Counselling sessions are usually 60 minutes long and take place once a week. How many sessions you will have is dependent on what you want to work on and the pace of progress. You should remember that counselling is not a quick fix, it takes time and can be emotionally taxing. Some people find 4-6 sessions is sufficient others come for several months. |
During the sessions I aim to listen to and respect what you say, understand your feelings and thoughts, offer ideas as to explanations and insights, provide focus and challenge. We sit in comfortable armchairs. Sometimes we might use photographs that have meaning for you, sometimes we might agree for you to do specific tasks between sessions but mainly our work will involve you talking and me listening. |
I work from an integrative perspective that sees understanding and emotions, thinking and feeling, as equally important in resolving difficulties. I place great emphasis on the quality of the counselling relationship, seeking to build a safe environment where we can explore what is happening in your life. |
