Counselling

Counselling is about helping you find ways to live your life more satisfactorily, to feel more comfortable with yourself and your relationships, to feel more in control, to make changes that might be needed, to come to terms with events in your life. Typical issues people bring to counselling include:

Counsellors aim to offer, safe and trusting atmosphere, listening and not judgement, support and challenge. Counselling is not giving advice, you will be helped to look at options and the possible outcomes and so find your own way forward.

Is counselling for me?

At some time in their life, almost everyone comes up against personal difficulties. If we are fortunate we can usually cope with the help and support of friends and family. Sometimes, something more is needed; someone outside the friends and family circle, someone not involved, someone professionally qualified.

People from all walks of life seek the help of professional, qualified counsellors. There is no longer any stigma associated with having counselling. It does not mean that you are weak or have a serious mental illness. On the contrary, it shows that you want to improve your situation and are motivated to do something about it.

Seeing a counsellor in private practise

Although the NHS sometimes provides counselling in GP surgeries, this may not be available at your GP practice, the number of sessions you can have may be limited and often there is a waiting list. Seeing a counsellor privately can also provide a greater sense of confidentiality and sessions at times that are more suited to your lifestyle.

BACP provides a list of counsellors in the UK with details of their training and experience. To find out more about my qualifications click here.
